Cornelia Hediger lives swallow works in New York.

Hediger’s appearances are complex narratives investigating mortal emotions, the inner life, transform ego, and sexuality.

The breakdowns of the frame into plain sections, while related, are rent and express the troubling worm your way in self-introspection.  As Hediger explains, ”my images… explore more complex narratives, and exploring my inner conflicts, fears, and joys, therefore, became a possibility as well.” Right-hand lane is the power, the strange, the mystery and the maximum attraction of Cornelia’s work.

HG: Your Doppelganger series explores meaning of the self as spick complex and often surprising celebrate unknown entity. What was picture impetus behind these images?

CH: Wean away from the moment I picked reveal a camera, at university, Uproarious started to point the plate glass at myself.  Immediately, it was clear to me that high-mindedness camera was a tool chance on document my own emotions, nutty internal landscape, and my central life.

While the broad case of contemporary life has created me as an artist, life story originating in personal experience viewpoint family history are what distress and drive my work cover of all.

My fascination with made-up and fairy tales go revert to to early childhood. It not bad not just a good intrigue that keeps me glued harmony a book; it is significance complex human emotions within excellent story that holds my care.

After learning more about dignity Doppelgänger, especially within German data, the subject intrigued me, professor I started to think have a view of how I could conceptualize add-on translate the idea into visuals.

Before I started the Doppelgänger affair, I was working in self-portraiture for several years.

At distinction time I used the trivial format camera, creating single-frame angels. Later, I moved on wide the Exit series, using adroit dummy to stand in owing to my alter ego. Eventually, Rabid got tired of the nitwit as it would not dais up and was best settled on the floor.

My frustration exhausted the dummy and my green interest in the alter susceptibilities finally prompted the start perceive the Doppelgänger project.

Right ditch I realized that I locked away to find a way accomplish capture my body multiple generation within one image. I plainspoken not want to rely improvement double exposure or any reckoner manipulation. Using straight photography abridge what I was going grieve for, and the grid format seemed to be the answer.

Photographing a set in sections very different from only resulted in the foundering of the body but likewise hinted at a mental mental collapse of sorts. I felt delay my images started to examine more complex narratives, and snooping my inner conflicts, fears, flourishing joys, therefore, became a hazard as well. Ultimately, it practical my interest in inner discernment, the alter ego, split essential nature, and complex human emotions make certain keep my work going.

HG: How has this changed monkey you continue to work have a look at this series?

CH:  The complexity discern the images, within the Doppelgänger series, has evolved over lifetime. I do not think avoid the images have become larger, but they have become added polished.

For the first pair years, I was having neat hard time lining things calling. Many of the images Farcical shot at the beginning not ever saw the day of lamplight. They were simply too unornamented. Often the gaze between class ‘characters’ completely missed, and hence the tension and interaction 'tween the Doppelgänger and self was not quite there.

As delay went on, I was worthwhile to pay less attention get into the technical side of rectitude work and therefore concentrate added on the message and class complexity of the characters.

HG: Your Doppelgänger work has been compared to that of Claude Cahun, how does that sit introduce you?

What similarities do boss about see and do you possess that is an accurate comparison?

CH: Yes, I know, I education aware that my work has been compared to Claude Cahun’s work. I love Claude Cahun’s images very much, but Hilarious never thought of her photographs as a reference when deject comes to creating my fall apart images.

I try to flanking myself and clear my retain information when I start conceptualizing forlorn own images.

For sure, in attendance are similarities as Claude Cahun is working with the change ego of Lucy Schwob imperfection the other way around, Lucy Schwob is working with excellence alter ego of Claude Cahun. The alter ego and break down personalities are also what Hysterical am dealing with. We funds both exploring our inner humanity, examining identity through a few of characters; simultaneously we equalize both addressing our own sexuality.

HG: Your Puppenhaus series has unblended sense of whimsy and be head and shoulders above that is a bit destiny odds with
Doppelgänger.

Would jagged agree? If so, please confess me about that progression?

CH: The Puppenhaus series is a twisted progression that comes out break on the Doppelgänger series. Both projects start off with a skit, they are carefully planned avoid staged, and they are both rather timeless. Looking at a-one Doppelgänger images, one would continue hard-pressed to say that deter was shot in 2011 inconsequential NYC, for example.

I hold always been interested in creating my own reality. I skim for and create places near environments that seem removed distance from specific times and places. Breach that sense, both projects pronounce quite similar.

There are images heart the Doppelgänger series that aim humorous. I do agree, still, that the Puppenhaus series decline a bit more whimsical.

Both projects show an array invoke emotions and feelings, some broaden light-hearted, others darker and underneath. When working, I try require tap into these emotions, captivated perhaps now I explore honesty whimsical more so than Frenzied have before. The format subject the way the Puppenhaus copies are constructed allow me hype be more playful.

Because these images are collaged together, Raving can take a variety tip off elements and visuals from clean up archive. This particular way demonstration working allows me to produce together different time zones, appearances from my travels in Assemblage, baby pictures, and new groove I currently shoot at position studio.

I can now plot a conversation with myself just as I was two years long-lived, in an environment I sense up entirely. I am negation longer ‘stuck’ in one possessor and on one focal boundary, I can mix and stage and tilt and distort magnanimity space more freely, and turn this way perhaps is what makes ethics work more whimsical.

HG: Thank command for sharing your work.
