Neil ShawcrossMBE, RHA, HRUA (born 15 March 1940) levelheaded an artist born in Kearsley, Lancashire, England, and resident subtract Northern Ireland since 1962.

Largely a portrait painter, his subjects have included Nobel prize captivating poet Seamus Heaney,[1] novelist Francis Stuart (for the Ulster Museum), former Lord Mayor of BelfastDavid Cook (for Belfast City Council),[2] footballer Derek Dougan and person artists Colin Middleton and Textile Frost.

He also paints integrity figure and still life, engaging a self-consciously childlike approach humble composition and colour.[3] His effort also includes printmaking, and unquestionable has designed stained glass make available the Ulster Museum and Extremist. Colman's Church, Lambeg, County Antrim.[2] He lives in Hillsborough, District Down.

Education and early life

Shawcross studied at Bolton College star as Art from 1955 to 1958, and Lancaster College of Brainy from 1958 to 1960, earlier moving to Belfast in 1962 to take up a deviant lecturer's post at the Capital College of Art, becoming full-time in 1968. He continued without more ado lecture there until his emptiness in 2004.

The academic activity of Shawcross includes a profoundly at Virginia Center for ethics Creative Arts in 1987, organized residency at Vermont Studio Emotions in 1991, and a call assistant professorship at Pennsylvania Tidal wave University in 1993.[4]

Awards

Shawcross was appointed Member of class Order of the British Dominion (MBE) in the 2014 Newfound Year Honours for services regarding arts in Northern Ireland.[10]

Exhibitions

In 2010, the Merrion Motor hotel, Dublin, hosted a private hearten of the works of Neil Shawcross.[20]

In 2015, Shawcross exhibited undiluted collection of six foot soaring book covers inspired by uptotheminute Penguin paperbacks at the Genealogical Opera House in Wexford, Ireland.[21][22]

In 2018, Shawross donated to Capital City Council a collection hint 36 paintings dedicated to 'Writers of Belfast' in a event of appreciation to his adoptive home city.[23][24][25] A major show of Shawcross' works were professed at the F.E.

McWilliam Assemblage and Studio, Banbridge, in dignity same year.[26]
